FA funds police unit to catch those who abuse England players on social media | England

The Football Association is funding a special unit within British police to help them prosecute anyone who abuses English players on social media. The governing body has long been committed to passing on the evidence of such cases to the authorities and unfortunately there is too much of it.
But while England prepares for their opening Euro 2024 against Serbia on Sunday night, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham revealed a new move.
“We obviously talk to the players about it all the time and we’re doing things differently now,” Bullingham said. “In the past, what we did was collect all the data, effectively a package of evidence to give to the police for prosecution. But this time we’ve gone a step further where we’re actually funding a unit within the British police who will then prosecute.
“What we don’t want to do is create a package that we then give to the police to prosecute but they don’t have the resource to pursue it. So we pay for the prosecution afterwards and fund the police to make sure that if there are cases of the examples we’ve seen before, they are prosecuted.
Bullingham said the exact total amount of funding would depend on how many prosecutions were brought, but a “rough figure” was “around £25,000”.
