News Corp Australia has apologized after using a photo of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in an unrelated story about child sexual abuse.
Three outlets – Sky News Australia, The Australian and the Daily Telegraph – published a photo of Miriki Performing Arts dancers linked to a report about comments made by Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price on October 17 last year.
The report refers to comments Price made to the Senate, where she described the rejection of the Royal Commission into the sexual abuse of Indigenous children as “genuine racism”.

The image, used without permission, was taken to promote a Miriki Performing Arts performance at the Cairn Children’s Festival and featured children adorned with body art.
“The report is not related to the children in the image in any way,” read the apology on Friday.
“We did not have the consent of the children or their parents, Miriki or Mr Mundrabi to use the image and we apologize unreservedly for the pain and harm caused by using the image in this way.”
The apology was posted online and on social media at 7 p.m.
Miriki director Pauline Lampton told ABC that children and their families are left feeling “disgusted, ashamed and angry”.
“I can’t remember this ever happening to white children, so it makes us feel as if the country places less importance on our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.”
