Will Elliott, the son of the former Australian Test cricketer Matthew Elliott, light up VFL with a contender for brand of the year.
The 19-year-old ruck-forward had the perfect position for a long kick in the Northern Bullants forward 50 on Sunday and gave AFL Recruiters something to think about with an exceptional emphasis.

Elliott jumped on the shoulder of Carlton reserve linebacker Logan Prout and pulled off a massive jumper.
“Elliot in the back, he’s going to get a fly here… OHH! He’s going to get a fly!” Nigel Carmody said on commentary.
Campbell Brown has already been impressed with what he has seen of the incredible young talent.
“He has so much potential,” Brown said after receiving the incredible grade.
“He was brilliant this afternoon. In the air, on the ground. It’s a nice trip.”
The youngster then grabbed another tally – albeit not as impressive as the first – late in the game to help set up the sealing goal for the Bullants.
“He played a game this afternoon that just makes you want to be picked on,” Brown said.
“He put together some good games, but this one was the best.”
A third mark of the day soon after had Brown convinced: “We won’t see him playing on the VFL list again next year.”
He scored two goals from five shots on goal from his 15 disposals on the day.
Elliott was on the AFL draft radar as a Coates Talent League star for the Oakleigh Chargers in 2022 and 2023.
After being overlooked as an 18-year-old in 2022, Elliott was invited back to the Chargers as an overdraft last year.
Clubs continued to monitor the 203cm forward in his 19th year and again considered taking him in the mid-season draft last May.
But while the once-touted first-round pick didn’t do enough to entice an AFL club to pounce on him, Elliott managed to attract the attention of VFL side Northern Bulllants, who snapped him up for 2024.
Dad Matthew played 21 Tests for Australia and was known as a technically sound, stylish left-arm player who scored over 17,000 first-class runs.
His other son, Sam, is a budding state cricketer for Victoria who will debut for the Melbourne Stars in 2021-22.
But while Matthew may have passed some sporting talent down through Sam’s bloodlines, he joked ahead of last year’s AFL draft that Will’s talent with the oval ball must have come from elsewhere.
“I’m trying to guide him through my reserves for Kyabram as a crafty half-forward,” Elliott told 7NEWS last year.
“I’ve never made an effective tackle in all my playing days, so he’s got me covered in that regard.”
Will said his father liked to reminisce about his halcyon days in cricket after watching the brilliant 112 Matthew made at Lord’s on several occasions during the second Test of the 1997 Ashes tour.
“He likes to put on YouTube every now and then and show us how it’s done,” Will said.
Sunday’s match between the Blues and the Bullants also featured 37-year-old former St Kilda star Sam Gilbert, who made his first appearance on a football field since his retirement.
Gilbert played 208 games for the Saints, including three grand finals, between 2006 and 2018 but has not played at any level since.
The key defender has been keeping fit by running triathlons since retiring from the AFL.
